- Funeral Liturgy for Lucy Lee Richards, 83, of Mentor, will be 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Vianney Church, 7575 Bellflower Road, Mentor.
Mrs. Richards passed away Thursday, June 17, 2010, at Tri Point Medical Center in Concord Township.
Born Aug. 17, 1926, in St. Louis, Mo., she was a previous resident of Euclid and a Lake County resident for 31 years, living in Mentor.
Lucy attended Mt. Holyoke College in Massachusetts and graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a bachelor's degree in zoology. In her leisure time, she loved antiquing, was an avid collector, enjoyed garage sales, and was an accomplished seamstress. She enjoyed crafts, quilting and patchworks, loved to read and enjoyed being with animals, especially dogs and horses. She was a lifelong piano player and was an accomplished pianist.
Mrs. Richards was a founding teacher at Lake Catholic High School in Mentor, and taught there throughout her teaching career. She was the former department head in the biology department.
She would have wanted her family to thank everyone at Heartland of Mentor and the Lake Hospital System for their wonderful care and love that was shown her.
She was the loving mother of Kathryn A. Richards of Cleveland, Sarah L. (William) Koch of Dayton and John C. (Caroline) Richards of Mentor; cherished grandmother of John J. (Andei) Haller, John A. (Kelly) Richards, Christine M. (fiance Matthew) Richards, Mathew J. Koch and Andrew W. Koch; great-grandmother of Allison Jean and sister of Lon F. (Mary) Israel of Gardnerville, Nev.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Ann E. Swartz, who passed away in 2001, and parents, Lon and Elizabeth (McTigue) Israel.
The family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center St. (Route 615, north of Route 2), Mentor. Fr. Tom Johns will officiate at services. Entombment will be in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township.
