Obituary for Ronald Owen Baker

Ronald Owen Baker, 93, passed away Aug. 22, 2016.
Mr. Baker was born Nov. 14, 1922, in Rock Island, Ill.
Mr. Baker served in the Intelligence Corps in World War II, and was stationed in France. He was an avid golfer and spent his leisure time playing at Manakiki, Pine Ridge and Madison Country Club. He had a smooth swing, was always willing to wager on the outcome of a match, and was known for his ready smile and his quick wit.
In 1949, he opened the first Dairy Queen in Ohio, located on Route 20 in Painesville followed by many more stores in the greater Cleveland area.
Mr. Baker is survived by his beloved wife, Saundra Parrish Baker; step daughters, Stephanie Rose (Art) and Kelly Zeleny, and their five children and six grandchildren; his son, Geoff Baker (Julie) of Kirtland, his daughter, Rebecca Morris of Boston, Mass.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Mr. Baker was preceded in death by his daughter, Lynn Mahan (Richard).
A private memorial service is planned.
