Obituary for Harry "Gordy" Wallar

Private services will be held for Harry “Gordy” Wallar, 86, of Willoughby. Mr. Wallar passed away Feb. 1, 2015, at Hospice House of the Western Reserve in Cleveland. Born June 10, 1928, in McArthur, he had been a Lake County resident for 46 years, living in Willoughby. Mr. Wallar was the athletic director at Willowick Junior High for 17 years, and continued teaching at the Willoughby Tech Center. He also coached at Hawken and Gilmour before finally retiring in 2008. Harry served as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Infantry during the Korean War. He was also a member of the Monday AD Golf League at Blackbrook in the “D” group. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff at Hospice of the Western Reserve for their loving care and support provided to the Wallar family. He was the loving father of Christi Wallar of Willoughby; and uncle of Randy, Connie, Jan, Sally and Bob. He also loved his granddogs, Sadie and Sasha. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Iva (Wilson) Wallar, who passed away in June 2014; and siblings, Wyman and Russell Wallar. Private burial will be held in Whitehaven Memorial Park. The family suggests contributions in his name to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Ave., Cleveland, OH 44110.
