Mr. Covelli passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, 2019, at Hospice House of the Western Reserve in Cleveland.
Born March 25, 1928, in Cleveland, he had been a resident of Lake County for 61 years, living in Mentor and Willoughby before moving to Mentor-on-the-Lake.
Al was a veteran of the Ohio National Guard. His family and Catholic faith were very important to Al, praying the Rosary daily and contributing to many Catholic Missions and Schools. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Willoughby, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society and an usher at the 4:30 Mass, and a former parishioner of St. Aloysius Church in Cleveland. He was the passionate caregiver to his wife, mother and father for many years. Al also loved playing golf and ran the Mentor Senior Golf League for over 15 years, traveling around the country, especially to Las Vegas and Reno to see shows and gamble, and attending air shows. He had a quick wit and great sense of humor and would help anyone in need or was in trouble. Al even won first place in 1962 for his Christmas decorations and lights outside of his home.
Mr. Covelli was the former secretary of Union Local 363, and served as chairman of PESCO Retirement Group. He had worked at W.S. Tyler as an electrician, Pesco Co., and retired in 1990 as a test technician from TRW.
He was the beloved husband of Ruth A. (nee Gelofsack) Covelli; loving father of James Sudbury, Jeffrey (Lucy) Covelli, Christine Covelli, Timothy (Nancy) Covelli and Sam (Patty) Covelli; cherished grandfather of Dawn, Aaron, Veronica, Jason, and Sabrina; great-grandfather of Emily, Nathan, Hannah and Jonathon; and brother of David (Sandy) Covelli.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Angela (nee Trzcinski) Covelli.
